Information architecture (IA) is one of the first steps in building a website, and it's the process of figuring out how the information on your website will be organized, presented, and inter-linked. Half of it is simple common sense, and the other half is based on specific rules, all of which serve to maximize the website's usability.

IA is basically the creation of an outline or skeleton of your website. For very small sites, the IA process is very quick.

In a back-and-forth process we'll decide what the different pages of your website will be and what they'll be called. For example, a typical small website might have: home, services, prices, locations, about us, contact us.
